Santa Cruz 50 - Bay Wolf (1-25 passengers)
We have owned Bay Wolf for three years and we are thrilled. She
sails wonderfully. She is fast, stable and a total joy to sail. Her
helm is very light and responsive - we have had 10 year old kids and
90 year-old salts sailing her with ease. At 50 feet of length, she
is a real head-turner, partly because she if pretty to look at, but
also because she sails so well. While other boats are struggling in
the stiff San Francisco breeze, we are able to sail fast and
maintain stability and overall comfort.
Bay Wolf is one of the legendary Santa Cruz 50's. These yachts
were built for one thing - sailing fast in the ocean. We looked for
several years for a yacht that would be very fun to sail, fast and
stable. We found it in Bay Wolf.
With her previous owners, Bay Wolf, raced to Hawaii five times in
both the Pacific Cup and the Transpac. Bay Wolf was chartered for
the first Women's Transpac team and is the only Santa Cruz 50
highlighted in the Walt Disney movie "100 Years of the Transpac".
BayWolf has a brand new mast, custom-built by Buzz Ballenger with
swept back spreaders that incorporates everything learned about the
Santa Cruz 50's during the past 30 years. She has recently been
outfitted with a custom-built hard dodger, Furuno radar, charting
GPS and anchor windlass.
Bay Wolf is a truly magnificent yacht. Bay Wolf is very
responsive, she accelerates quickly and handles beautifully. In
heavy air, her deep keel (8 feet) keeps her well balanced. in light
airs Bay Wolf is sailing quickly, while other boats are standing
still or forced to motor.
One measure of the Santa Cruz 50's performance is that Paul
Cayard - one of the best sailors in the world (America's Cup
skipper, Whitbread round-the-world race skipper) - bought a Santa
Cruz 50 two weeks after we purchased Bay Wolf. Paul Cayard had his
choice of any yacht, new or used, in the world and chose a sister
ship to Bay Wolf.
Bay Wolf shows amazing speeds, great acceleration and ease of
driving. We are the fastest charter boat in San Francisco Bay and as
we pass other boats they wave and take our picture.
As one guest recently said (June 22, 2008), "I have been
sailing for 25 years and sailed on San Francisco Bay for 15 years.
During that time I have never sailed a boat as fast and fun as
Baywolf. She is amazing and handles like a dream. She is truly a
sports car on the water."
From October 2008 to June 2009, Bay Wolf was chartered and
sailing in Mexico. Covering 5,000 miles from San Francisco to
southern Mexico and back. Click here for a summary of some of the
BayWolf Mexico charters.
Bay Wolf is certified for up to 30 passengers, but we are
limiting the number of passengers to 25 so that everyone can enjoy a
comfortable sailing experience.
You too can skipper a Santa Cruz 50.
